How to Clean a Microfiber Couch

A comfortable microfiber couch is a must-have piece of living room furniture. A microfiber couch is economical, attractive and can be styled to look like suede, so it's an obvious choice in a high-traffic area like the living room. Microsuede sectional couches or microfiber loveseats are designed to repel liquid, and if you react quickly to spills, you can avoid staining your furniture. Thanks to resilience against stains, the microfiber sofa has become a favorite addition to the family room. If you do have a spill, here are some tips on how to clean a microfiber couch.

Cleaning a Microfiber Couch:

  1. Vacuum: If the spill is of the non-liquid variety, grab your vacuum and suck it up. This prevents crumbs from getting ground into the fabric of your microfiber couch and keeps oils from soaking in. The last thing you want soaking into your microfiber sectional couch is oil, which can seep deep into the fabric. Regular vacuuming will help keep your sofa looking fresh and help the microfiber to last longer.
  2. Blot: If a liquid spill occurs, quickly blot it with a clean, dry cloth. If you can absorb the liquid before it soaks into the fabric, you can spare yourself a stain and the effort of cleaning a couch. Microfiber is designed to resist liquid, so make sure to pat the spill rather than rubbing it into the cushion.
  3. Clean: If you can't catch the spill before it soaks in, put a drop of mild soap on a clean, damp cloth and work in small circles over the stain on your microfiber couch. Start with smallest amount of soap possible and add more as needed. Finish by blotting the damp area to prevent water marks.
  4. Remove stains: If soap doesn't remove the stain, invest in a cleaner designed specifically for microfiber. There are cleaning solutions designed for use on microfiber furniture; read the directions and apply with a sponge or damp cloth.
  5. Brush: After cleaning, you may be left with a patch of hard fabric. Allow it to dry completely and then rub gently with a dry, unused soft-bristled toothbrush. Follow these simple tips, and your microfiber couches should stay in pristine condition for years to come. How to clean a Microfiber Couch
